Breeding Rules Norway

Norwegian Leonberger Club

SHOWS:

The bitch must have been exhibited at least 3 times, of which 2 awards must be “EXCELLENT” and at least one (1) VERY GOOD. At least one of these awards must be achieved after reaching the age of 2 years. The male dog must be exhibited at least 3 times, of which 2 awards must be “EXCELLENT” and one (1) VERY GOOD. Judgements must come from 3 different judges. The judgement counts equally from all countries that follow the FCI standard.

HEALTH:

The dog must be free of hip dysplasia (HD). Elbow joint osteoarthritis (AA) status must be known on both dogs in a combination and at least one of the dogs must be free.

Eyesight must be examined before using for breeding for the first time after 18 months. The eye certificate is valid up to and including the day it turns 4 years old. After the age of 4, dogs that are still breeding must be re-examined. According to authorized ophthalmologists, an approved eye examination is valid for one year. Dogs with widespread cataracts or posterior pole cataracts on both eyes can not be used in breeding. If the changes concern only one eye, the dog is put on hold for 12 months, re-examined, and if the changes still only concern one eye, the dog can be used in breeding.  Opacities (dots) in the front lens/y-seam can be used in breeding – only with clean mate. Powdery nuclear cataract can be used in breeding – only with clean mate.

At least one of the breeding animals must be tested for LPN 1 and 2 If one of the breeding animals is a carrier of LPN1 (D/N), the other must be tested free (N/N). Dogs that are LPN 2 D/N cannot be used in breeding, but siblings can be used if they are free. It is strongly recommended that breeding animals (males/bitches) should be tested for LPN1

Dogs with chronic skin disorders must not be used in breeding.

All dogs used in breeding must have a bite that complies with the current breed standard.
