SHOWS:

At an official exhibition, a Leonberger used for breeding must obtain at least two VG results in the quality

rating in the juvenile category or one VG result in the open category.

Only show results achieved in Finland will be accepted for Leonbergers registered in Finland for breeding.

HEALTH:

HD

Rules for registering a litter is that an official hip statement has been issued for the litter’s parents before

mating.

The minimum grade for registration is grade C of hip joint dysplasia, with grade C only allowed to be used

with grade A or B or, alternatively, the average hip joint processing indices of the combination should be at

least 101. At the time of the xray, the dog must be at least 18 months old.

ED

The registration minimum grade is 2. At the time of the xray, the dog must be at least 18 months old.

Eye examination

Offspring of a dog with posterior polar cataract is not registered.

Polyneuropathy LPN1, LPN2 and LPPN3

Alternatively, a dog is considered LPN1, LPN2 and LPPN3 free N/N if both parents are LPN1, LPN2 and

LPPN3 free N/N according to a genetic test. (The parents’ results have been submitted to a list maintained

by the Leonberger Club of Finland for publication or the results have been published on the Worldwide

Independent Leonberger Database website http://www.leonberger-database.com/).

LPN1 carrier D/N may be combined with LPN1 not carrier N/N. LPN1 carrier may not be combined with

another LPN1 carrier D/N. Sick dog D/D must not be used for breeding.

LPN2 carrier D/N or sick D/D must not be used for breeding.

LPPN3 carrier D/N may not be combined with LPPN3, not carrier N/N. LPPN3 carrier D/N may not be

combined with another LPPN3 carrier D/N. Sick dog D/D must not be used for breeding.

LEMP

Dogs used for breeding must have a LEMP genetic test result before mating.

Alternatively, a dog is considered LEMP-free N/N if both parents of the dog are LEMP-free N/N according to

a genetic test. (The parents’ results have been submitted to a list maintained by the Leonberger Club of

Finland for publication or the results have been published on the Worldwide Independent Leonberger

Database website).

The LEMP carrier D/N may not be combined with the LEMP carrier N/N. LEMP carrier D/N may not be

combined with another LEMP carrier D/N. A sick dog D/D must not be used for breeding.

General rules

– a dog with tooth deficiency (excluding M3) should always be paired with a dog with full dentition

– An ED grade 1 dog should be paired with an ED grade 0 dog

– PPM Iris-Iris dog should be mated with a healthy-eyed dog, etc.

In general, dogs with the same defect should not be combined. Dogs with a close family history of heart disease, cancer or a high incidence of heart disease or cancer should not be combined.

Only healthy dogs that are able to lead a species-typical life without constant medication or surgical

intervention to correct structural defects are used in breeding.

 

Dogs diagnosed with mild Entropion/Trichiasis and Ectropion/Macroblepharon can be used for breeding, but

the mating partner must be chosen as the above. Severe cases should not be used for breeding at all.

Dogs cut/operated from their eyelids should not be used for breeding.

 

A dog with a lower or upper bite should not be used for breeding.

 

A dog that is ill with the following should not be used for breeding:

-Epilepsy

– Laryngeal paralysis

– Unidentified forms of polyneuropathy

– Serious autoimmune disease

-Cancer

– Severe spondylosis

– Dilated cardiomyopathy.

 

BREEDING TEST:

 

STUD/BROOD STATUS:

A maximum of 40 puppies shall be registered for a male during his lifetime, provided that the last litter of the

male is registered in its entirety.

 

AGE RESTRICTIONS:

The minimum age limit for bitches is 24 months at the time of mating.

The minimum age limit for males is 20 months at the time of mating.
